About ioniTOUCH™

ioniTOUCH™ keyboards were developed from Diamond HMI’s range of waterproof ruggedised keyboards by incorporating an antimicrobial coating within the silicone rubber casing and coating. The product was aimed at applications in healthcare settings where keyboard cleanliness and antimicrobial protection is important in reducing HCAI’s (Health Care Associated Infections). Keyboards are a hazardous touchpoint where harmful bacteria can be transmitted. Therefore, users must effectively clean these surfaces to minimise the risk of infections spreading.

Working alongside Health Innovation Manchester who work with local businesses looking to enter the healthcare sector, we successfully introduced ioniTOUCH™ keyboards into Manchester University Hospitals Trust. After receiving positive feedback from healthcare users, we have expanded into other market sectors with increased awareness of keyboard hygiene due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ioniTOUCH™ range of waterproof and antimicrobial keyboards and mice, is now sold throughout the UK and Europe to many different market sectors including multiuser office space, libraries, dentists, health screening centres and laboratories.

Section 6.66 of HTM 01-05 states:

“For infection control reasons, in clinical areas covers should be provided over computer keyboards.

Conventional keyboards should be replaced with “easy-clean” waterproof keyboards as recommended in the Department of Health’s (2008) ‘Clean, safe care: reducing infections and saving lives”.
